A Message from the Founders & Owners, Laura Castro-Rauch & Terry Michael Rauch II
It is a true honor to welcome you to Luminara—more than a wellness center, it is the realization of a dream that has been over a decade in the making.
Our journey began in 2012 under unlikely circumstances. Terry was part of an executive team pursuing the acquisition of a medical university with the bold vision of transforming it into a bilingual international medical school. I served as the legal advisor on that project. Although the bid was not successful, something far more important came out of that effort—it brought us together not just as partners in life, but as partners in purpose.
Since then, we’ve dedicated ourselves to improving health outcomes across the Americas. With Terry’s 27 years of experience as a global health investor and entrepreneur, and my 20-year career as an attorney specializing in international ventures and healthcare, we’ve collaborated with some of the world’s leading institutions to advance medical education, innovation, and accessibility.
While we split our time between our homes in Escazú and historic Old Town Alexandria, Virginia—where we primarily reside—Luminara remains close to our hearts. We are proud to have assembled a deeply capable, hand-selected team who run the spa with the same care, attention to detail, and passion with which it was founded.
We continued to ask ourselves a simple but powerful question:
How can we bring the future of health and wellness directly to the people of Costa Rica—right now—not as a concept, but as a daily experience?
The answer began to take shape in late 2024, through a heartfelt conversation with someone who would become instrumental to our vision—Eloisa. She shared insights from her own experience that illuminated the real wellness needs of our community. In that moment, everything clicked.
From that spark, Luminara was born. Every wall, every light, every treatment we offer was created with care, science, and intention. This space was designed not just to impress—but to inspire, support, and transform.
At Luminara, we don’t follow trends—we help shape the future. We collaborate with leading researchers and innovators in aesthetics, regenerative health, and human performance to offer you the safest, most effective, and most advanced non-invasive treatments available today. From photobiomodulation therapy and advanced skin diagnostics to body contouring and wellness-based recovery tools, our services are evidence-based and results-driven.

We are also deeply committed to education and giving back. Through the Luminara Institute, we offer continuing education to wellness professionals across Latin America, equipping them with training in cutting-edge, science-based techniques. And through our non-profit arm, the PROSADEH Foundation, we support projects that bring dignity, access, and health to underserved populations.
